Adult Women's Colonial Costumes

When the settlers began arriving from England, Holland, and France to explore the new world, they brought many of their customs and their way of dressing with them, and our adult women's colonial costumes represent that initial period of dress. Many of the women and men who came to this country were puritans, who sought purity in worship as well as extremely moral behavior, and this attitude is reflected in the dress, with long sleeves, high necks and floor length hemlines as shown in our women's Colonial costume designs. Most women also kept their hair covered with a mop cap or bonnet, which we offer in our women's Colonial costume accessories. While women had less authority in Colonial days, there is no denying the strength and fortitude they must have had to embark on an adventure, head to a new world and then work as hard as they did to tame the world into a habitable space in which they could raise their families.
