Hats in the 1980s and 1990s were very different than those of previous decades. Where hats had been used as a way to dress up an outfit in the 40s, 1980s and 1990s hats were more akin to skull caps and knit hats that identified you as part of a grunge group. Thanks to the big hair styles, other than baseball caps and trucker hats, most 1980s and 1990s hats were not very popular. Women were more likely to wear headbands (let's get physical!) and leg warmers than hats in the 1980s and 1990s. However, the 80s and 90s, for all of its punk and grunge music, were also the decades of the yuppie, and women loved to dress with glamour. Dr. Zhivago style furry hats were extremely popular, and guitarist Slash from Guns n Roses made top hats popular with rock n rollers around the world. Not to be discounted, in kids fashion, Strawberry Shortcake hit the scene in her pink and green brimmed hat, leading the way for girls everywhere to fall in love with pink all over again.
